Clarinet Faculty Biographies:

Dr. Mary Alice Druhan has built an active clarinet studio at Texas A&M University – Commerce since 2002 where the university has recognized her with several nominations and awards including the 2011 James “Jim” Vornberg Award for Teaching, the 2010 Provost Award for research, and the 2016 H.M. Lafferty Distinguished Faculty Award.

Dr. Druhan is an official member of the Dallas Winds and has also performed with the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” Baton Rouge and Acadiana symphonies, Dallas Festival of Modern Music, Triforia Winds, DeuxEaux, Shreveport Symphony, Shreveport Opera, East Texas Symphony, Plano Symphony, Wichita Falls Symphony. Color of Sound chamber series, and others.

In 2011 she suffered a debilitating playing-related injury, inspiring her research into musician injury, prevention, and recovery. Her work in this area has been featured in The Clarinet and the SAI Pan Pipes. She presents lectures about musician injury and injury prevention for schools and conferences around the country.

 

Dr. Jody Webb is Adjunct Instructor of Clarinet at Texas A&M University-Commerce and teaches in the Dallas, Texas area.  His students have placed as prizewinners and finalists in numerous competitions for the International Clarinet Association, the Backun 2017 International Clarinet Competition, the OU Clarinet Symposium, and the Clarinet Colloquium, and have enjoyed much success in the TMEA All-State Ensembles and Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Ensembles.

Dr. Webb has served as the Principal Clarinetist of the Richardson Symphony and has also performed with the Dallas Winds, East Texas Symphony, Texas Chamber Orchestra, and the Garland/Las Colinas Symphony.  He won the International Clarinet Association’s Orchestral Audition Competition in Stockholm, Sweden, and has performed and presented at the International Clarinet Association Clarinetfest, Texas Music Educators Association Convention, the OU Clarinet Symposium, and the Clarinet Colloquium.

Dr. Webb and Dr. Druhan are both Backun Musical Services Artists.
